Jon Auer与另一独立音乐干将Ken Stringfellow组建的the Posies曾是Geffen旗下口碑最好的吉他流行乐队之一。而这张专辑则是the Posies解散之后Jon Auer游走于其他乐队并发行两张EP之后的第一张个人专辑。很明显“Songs From the Year Of Our Demise”是一张慢热的作品，这里几乎没有任何风格上的蜕变和野心，所有歌曲都是典型的吉他主导的独立摇滚曲。但最值得称道的也就在于Jon Auer在没有任何新花样的前提下也能做出这些温和优美并且值得细细品味的歌曲，而且总体又完全不落俗套。开首曲“Six Feet Under”和“Josephine”显示了Jon Auer完全有能力写出更加主流的打榜作品；民谣风格的“Song Noir”和“Wicked World”则让人感受到“Songs From the Year Of Our Demise”仍然是一张忠于Jon Auer自身的私人作品集。
